Diversity

How CQT works to provide a supportive and welcoming culture

Diversity and inclusion at CQT

The Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT) is a national centre in Singapore dedicated to performing cutting-edge research. We strive to provide a supportive culture, open to different views and welcoming to people of all backgrounds.

Our centre has over 150 staff and some 100 students across different universities, research institutes and departments. We work on a wide range of topics, theoretical and experimental, from fundamental to applied. We come from almost 40 different countries (see charts) across 6 continents. These differences fuel fresh ideas and exciting collaborations. As the unifying factor, CQT provides the resources, support and sense of community that enables our members to thrive and push the boundaries of research!

Community initiatives

We are committed to improving equity, diversity and inclusion in our centre and we acknowledge this needs a sustained and coordinated effort. Our current avenues for community feedback and discussion are listed here.

As a step to address the underrepresentation of women in our community, we have recently introduced the Alice Prizes. These support a Research Fellow and small number of interns at undergraduate or master’s level to work at CQT each year. The award is only given to women researchers already working in CQT, who may be nominated by their group leader.

The CQT graduate club gives a collective voice to PhD students at CQT and organises regular social activities and dinners.

Roundtables with CQT leadership give opportunities for PhD students and Research Fellows to meet face-to-face with CQT’s Director and Deputy Director and with the Centre’s Scientific Advisory Board

Our wellbeing committee comprises staff who offer a safe and confidential space to raise any issues and can provide information on formal feedback channels and professional support options.
