Congratulations to our newest batch of quantum doctors
We celebrate the achievements of CQT’s seven most recent PhD graduates at a NUS commencement ceremony on 18 July

A round of applause for the seven graduates from the Centre for Quantum Technologies’ PhD programme who are now officially quantum doctors! Their degrees were bestowed at a commencement ceremony at the National University of Singapore (NUS) on 18 July, with five students attending to collect their degrees in person. Congratulations!
During their time at CQT, the graduates contributed to research on topics ranging from quantum foundations to quantum communications and quantum algorithms. For example, Chee Chong Hian worked with collaborators at A*STAR’s Institute of High Performance Computing and IBM Quantum on a quantum algorithm for a quantum chemistry use case. Meanwhile, Zaw Lin Htoo worked on methods to certify the non-classicality of certain quantum systems and collaborated with researchers at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Sydney on the first experimental verification of their protocol.
Several of the graduates were also active in outreach during their time at the Centre. Lin, Chong Hian, Aw Cenxin Clive and Wu Shuin Jian were members of the organising committee over the past few years. They took the lead in planning and organising a week’s activities for pre-university students joining CQT’s annual outreach camp.
Now the graduates move on to new roles. While some remain in academia, others take on new challenges such as Yeo Xi Jie, who was hired at DSO National Laboratories, Singapore’s largest defence research and development organisation. We wish our graduates all the best!
We encourage our alumni to stay in touch and share their career stories.
Prospective students interested in pursuing a PhD at CQT can find more information on our website. Under CQT’s earlier PhD programme, all students were matriculated at NUS. Under the National Quantum Scholarships Scheme launched in 2024, PhD students at CQT matriculate at one of NUS, the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore or the Singapore University of Technology and Design.
